Well, you just boot up the udpcast CD or floppy, as you would for a PATA disk, but near the end, you chose to load a "hard disk driver" module. By default, it only proposes you modules corresponding to hardware (SATA controllers) present in your machine, but for the case where it is wrong, you can chose "other", and then you get the complete list. If the correct module is chosen, you should see your SATA disks as /dev/sda, /dev/sdb, etc. and its partitions as /dev/sda1 , /dev/sda2 or similar.
